At least 16 insurgents were killed in counter-terrorism operations conducted by security forces in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Tuesday. "The operations were conducted in Barmal district of Paktika, Samkani district of Paktia, Dowab district of Nuristan, Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan and Achin district of Nangarhar provinces. As a result 16 armed militants were killed and nine others were wounded," according to the statement. "Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition," it said. The statement did not provide details on casualties among the security forces.
